Hi everyone! Not sure where the last three weeks have gone. Last time I had finished the stitching and started on the backstitching.
I've been finding it surprisingly tricky and very slow going, since most of the backstitches are partial stitches -- into the middles, across, say, one and a half stitches, etc. I stitch a few, then have to stop and mark up my chart so I can keep track of where I am.
That said, I've finished the bottom half of the piece, and gotten a start on the cresting wave.
I do love the look of the backstitching, but you can see, I think, why it's taking me so long.
In the next three weeks I hope to finish the backstitching and at least get a start on the literally dozens of teeny, tiny French knots. Wish me luck!
Looking for some crafty inspiration? Be sure to check out the projects my fellow stitchers are working on. They're all different and all amazing: Avis, Claire, Gun, Constanze, Christina, Kathy, Margaret, Heidi, Jackie, Megan, Deborah, Sharon, Daisy, AJ, Cathie, Linda, Helen, Connie, Cindy, and Mary Margaret.
That particular backstitching requires a lot of concentration to avoid mistakes, but it certainly makes the piece look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathie! It's verrry slow going on my part.
DeleteThat is looking great ! I didn't realize this pattern had a layer of backstitching and knots on top of it. Good luck with it, I tend to prefer doing those in short bursts and alternate with crosses else I go mad !
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I didn't realize how detailed the backstitching was -- I thought it was more standard so figured it would be relaxing. Note to future self: read all the instructions first!!! :)
DeleteThis is spectacular!! The backstitching looks like it's a bear to work but adds so much definition to the overall piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I know it's worth it. At least that's what I keep telling myself. ;)
DeleteIt's looking great!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christina!
DeleteOoh I haven't seen this for a little while, it looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYou must need so much patience to do the back stitching but it's going to be worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteThanks Avis -- sometimes when I'm up close with it I think "it's not that much of a difference" but then I set it down and I can really see how much the backstitching adds. Still not sure about the French knots, though. ;)
DeleteThat backstitching is so worth the effort Sunny, this just gets better and better each update!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteWow! So much backstitching beautiful! I have never been able to do a french knot and I don't know why either lol!
ReplyDeleteSorry! This is Mary Margaret :)
DeleteThanks Mary Margaret!
DeleteThis piece is really spectacular, I must say that every time. You're doing such a great job on it - back stitching can be such a chore but its looking good.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
DeleteThanks Claire -- I'll need it!
