Acanthus Stitch-a-Long -- COMPLETE

Hi everyone -- it's HAPPY DANCE TIME!!!

Apparently I had been sandbagging, because I got the background completely filled in! I've been taking part in a #summerstitching challenge to stitch at least 30 minutes a day in June, and that really kept me on track and stitching.

Then this weekend, I decided to make up the cushion itself. I already had the backing fabric and was able to order a cushion insert and a zipper for curbside pickup, so why not put it together?

It's not "done", really -- I had decided to edge it not with fringe, but with cording, inspired by the images on the Beth Russell Needlepoint website. However, ordering the cording from Beth Russell is £44... whereas ordering the wool to make my own is $13. I've ordered several colors of wool and hope to have it in the next week or so!

I also decided to try making some tassels for the corners. I'm not sure I'll use them, but I like how they turned out (and they used up some of the leftover lengths of wool!):

I'll try them out (oh, and trim them up!) once I make the cording. Even without the finishing, I'm still thrilled with the way the cushion turned out! Here it is next to two of the "Forest" cushions I made earlier:

I know what you're thinking ... what's next??? I think I'll take a little break from needlepoint and try some cross stitch. I have a gorgeous smallish kit that might be perfect. We'll see at our next check-in on July 12!

The other stitchers in this stitch-a-long all make amazing, and inspiring projects, so check out everyone's blogs to see what they're all up to.

    1. Thank you Connie! There was so much leftover yarn that had been precut into lengths it seemed a shame not to use some of it.

  4. Wow! That's a gorgeous finish. Getting all the stitching done was a lot but to have made up the cushion as well, that's great. I hope you're feeling better too :-)

    1. Thanks Avis! This cushion was super easy -- just the zipper and then the outside. I had thought about putting it off and then thought -- I should just get my machine out and sew it! I'm feeling much better -- it's a little strange knowing I still have a clot in the back of my brain and to be monitoring lots of things, but otherwise feeling "normal".

    1. Thanks Sue! The wool has arrived to make the cording, now I just have to rope my husband in (no pun intended!) to help me hold it while I twist.
