Here's where I was at the last check-in:
and a view of the back, since it's a little challenging to see the stitching against the brightly printed canvas:
I've been trying to make time to stitch an hour once every few days. And I do feel like I'm making progress, though it's difficult to see.
Here's where I am now, three weeks later:
I actually had to roll the canvas a tiny bit so I could reach the top of the "blue-green leaves" ... but not so far that I couldn't reach the bottom of the "gray-green" leaves.
Here's a shot of my progress from the back; you can see that the canvas roll is so small that I haven't "rolled up" any actual stitching yet:
The veins and the "dark shadow" are obvious enough, but the fact that there are three more shades of green here... well, it's a challenge.
But, again, if it's that difficult to tell on the canvas, I'm going to say that it's not crucial when the actual wool is pretty close, too.
I'm pleased with my progress, though of course I wish I was getting more done! By the time we reach our next check-in, I want to finish the lower gray-green and browny-green leaves and roll the canvas for real. At that point I'll feel like I've completed 1/3 of the leaves (even if I'm not starting on the background stitching...)
The other stitchers in this stitch-a-long have undoubtedly been even more productive as I have this term, so check out everyone's blogs to see what they're all up to.

See you on February 16th for our next check-in!
I can't imagine dealing with that canvas, I need explicit color mapping!😆 These really are beautiful, so I can see why you persevere!
ReplyDeleteIt makes my eyes cross a bit! Of course, there's also a chance that I mixed up the colors when I was separating them, sooooo... But as you said, it will be gorgeous when it's done!
DeleteI agree with Kathy! I'm not good without the color mapping. You are doing great! Any progress is good progress, right? https://stitchingirlblog.wordpress.com/
ReplyDeleteThanks Connie! I figure if it's hard to tell between the colors on the canvas, and the yarns are also pretty close, well... I'll just do my best.
DeleteIt's really difficult...but you are very good!
ReplyDeleteHugs,Carmela
Thanks Carmela! It's slow going, but I like seeing the progress.
Deleteyou need good eyes and excellent lighting!
ReplyDeleteclaire93
Claire, I can buy better lighting, but I'm afraid my eyes are as good as they're gonna get. :)
DeleteYes to the Ott Lite..I have two, a floor model and a desk and I couldn't do without either. This piece with it's colouring is challenging for sure but you are doing so well with the stitching. Row by row...Happy Stitching, Sunny!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jocelyn! Slow and steady.
DeleteThis piece is definitely a challenge colour-wise but you're good at challenges :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Avis -- I do enjoy a challenge!
DeleteAs challenging as the colors are, this is stunning! Beautiful stitching. I do hope you had fun snowshoeing!
ReplyDeleteHi Renee! We got really lucky with our weather and the mountain was out -- much better than the whiteout that was forecast!
DeleteI think I´d go crazy with all the greens :) You are doing a great job!!!!
ReplyDeleteI even struggled with figuring out what was "bluey green", what was "grey green", what was "limey green", and what was "browny"... let alone reading the colors off the canvas. :)
DeleteI don't know how you do it. The different greens would drive me nuts! You have nerves of steel my friend. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteMary Margaret, I worry that I'll figure it out, then roll the canvas and by the time I get back to that type of leaf, I'll forget it again!
