Acanthus Stitch-a-Long, part 1

Hi everyone, and happy new year! I love January -- it always feels like there's so much opportunity!

Last AUGUST I put this project on the frame and sorted my wool... and then just tried not to make eye contact with it because it felt overwhelming.

So many shades of green ... some leaves described as "green", others as "green-yellow", others as "browny" and others as "green-blue". The challenge wasn't really sorting the wool, it was spotting the colors on the canvas! But I realized I just needed to dive in. If I run out of wool because I used 241 where I should have used 542, so be it. And if I need to buy more, I will.

Now that I've just made decisions -- "that's what I will call green yellow" -- I'm actually getting some good stitching done.

Like my last project, the colors are printed so brightly on the canvas that it can be a little hart to see what's stitched and what's not. So here's the back -- that's definitely progress this time!!!

The other stitchers in this stitch-a-long have undoubtedly been just as productive as I have this term -- probably more! We also have a new member, AJ -- so check out everyone's blogs to see what they're all up to.

Avis, Claire, Gun, Carole, Sue, Constanze, Christina, Kathy, Margaret, Cindy, LindaHeidi, Jackie, Hayley, Megan, Deborah, Mary MargaretRenee, Jenny, Carmela, Jocelyn, SharonDaisy, Anne, and Connie, and a warm welcome to new member, AJ.

See you on January 26th for our next check-in!

  3. I think that's one of the reasons I steer clear of needlepoint, figuring out the colors on the type of project I would like is too scary! You have a magnificent start start here!

    1. Kathy, I figured if I can't tell what color A is vs color B, no one else will either. Of course, it took me a long time to get there! Thanks!

  4. Great idea to loop the correct yarn colour in the shade squares at the side. Now that you've made a start I think you'll enjoy the challenge. You've got loads done already.

    1. Thanks Avis -- sadly, I can only see about half of the color squares at a time when the canvas is on the frame! Still, it's definitely helpful.

    1. Thank you! The sorting was okay, just figuring out what the colors on the canvas are was the challenge. :)

  9. Sometimes just making the decisions necessary to get started stitching is the hardest part. Well done for getting so much done!
