Hi everyone! I'll just come straight out with it -- I haven't done much stitching on the Swans project these last three weeks. It's been pretty crazy, including our holiday in Beijing (so great! travelog posts to come!!!), the Thanksgiving holiday here (and, as an e-commerce manager, the Black Friday / Cyber Monday madness around it), and spending most of my stitching time working on my Super Secret Project ... with a December 24th deadline...
However, some progress *has* been made, and I am pretty happy with it!
I finished the last big of edging of the lower leaves, and have filled in a lot of the satin stitch on them. I also decided to do one little bit of the light blue background just for a break. That's the nice mindless stuff that I think I'll work on a bit more in this next three weeks.
Here's something odd I noticed: in the bottom banner, the scallop shapes are really weirdly uneven. That is going to drive me crazy in a finished pillow... so when the time comes to stitch the edges, I think I'll just chart out something similar... but EVEN.
I am sure that the next three weeks will result in little progress... but one stitch at a time, eh?

Plenty more done again even though you've been busy. I'd have to change the edge as well.

DeleteI know about all the holiday shopping madness! I work with retail and ecommerce as well and we still have some weeks ahead of us! Fun looking project. Looking forward to seeing more!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, a lot of my colleagues who work in a different part of the company are "taking it easy" because they're essentially "done" for the year, while my team is still scrambling. Hang in there!

DeleteMaybe the scallops were meant to be like that to give a more 'hand-crafted' feel to the design. I know it would drive me nuts to leave them that way!
ReplyDeleteI should try to be more easygoing about it, probably -- but it really triggers something in my organization brain! It's all I can do not to count the stitches on the other parts of the design to make them "perfect mirrors" -- but I decided to let at least that part go!
DeleteHad you not said anything I would probably not have noticed the scallops, but had I stitched them I would and have to agree the uneven finish would have driven me mad so change would have happened. I am always changing things I don't like.

DeleteI agree with you about the scallop shells along the bottom. Might be easier to chart that part yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'm even considering doing a different stitch to add some more texture to the piece ... but we'll see how I feel when I finally get to it.
DeleteYou´ve done a lot these last three weeks, I think! I am not so sure I´d change the scallop shells at the bottom. I think you are supposed to look at (imaging looking at) them through the water!

ReplyDeleteThanks Catherine - I haven't looked at the top edge (it's rolled up on the frame) and I wonder if it "matches" the bottom or if it is more even. Time will tell!
DeleteWell, you beat my effort by a mile!!! That background will be perfect for when you need a mindless break. Good that the deadline secret project is moving along too! These swans really will be spectacular when you finish them.
